Happiness A Matter of the Mind: Vantage Point of an OctogenarianThis book is a summary of my own experiences, including stories I have read and have been told by others. Stories are paraphrased and names have been changed to protect people’s privacy. After conquering several unfortunate situations throughout my long life, I always came out becoming a happier person. With several examples from different genres of literature—many from my own German background—complementing my own experiences, I explain that unhappiness does not have to prevail. Enemies of happiness can be subdued and any adverse situation can hide a silver living. It only has to be detected. It takes motivation, want, and effort to achieve inner happiness. My book is different from the many other “happiness” books that crowd the shelves today since I am much older than most of the other authors.

The Lake DwellersMathilde wrote her second book about a fictional storytelling group - a group of interesting people living around a lovely lake in the Sierra foothills of California who form a storytelling circle. They meet monthly at different mountain homes and have different narrators telling stories, some about themselves, some made-up, short, long, funny, serious, sad or happy. Some are poems, some essays. This goes on for three years, 1982 to 1985.Though most of the Lake Dwellers don't know each other in the beginning, they become good friends over the years, some even more than that. The little community of Springlake is also prospering. Lake Dwellers can be purchased via the Internet at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, iUniverse.com and Target.com. In Canada and Great Britain it can be ordered with Tesco.com. |

My Life On Two ContinentsRaised in Germany during the Hitler years this girl had two wishes: to go to a university and to leave Germany for America. Both of these wishes were granted; but it was not easy. She was often confronted with obstacles and even had to endure life-threatening situations. Only her positive attitude, her persistence, and her belief in her own personal "Guardian Angel" pulled her through. Her parents, well respected citizens of her hometown, Bremen, had taken her out of high school to pursue a course in seed breeding to be able to work and be independent. But she ran into difficulties to even achieve that goal. Finally she managed to further her education, but was stopped by the last months of the war and became a prisoner of war. How she was released, sent back to her home country, almost got killed by bombs, but finally got both of her wishes granted, getting a good husband in the process and leading a fulfilling life in California, should warrant interesting reading. |
